The good old days

When we were in Canada a couple of weeks ago we were looking through lots of photo albums, when my daughter came across several "interesting" photos from my youth. Here's one of me sporting my brand new Montreal Canadiens sweater (in the days when they really were sweaters) and my hand-me-down skates. I was such a poor skater that my Dad didn't have to worry about anything like fast shutter speeds ;)

(I know, this post served no useful purpose - I just thought it was a funny pic)

I think it's a great pic, Dave! I'm also old enough to remember when there were hockey SWEATERS :-)

Glad you clarified that for me, at first glance I thought it was Guy Lafleur...hehe

Great Team and great picture! Yep the good old days, where everyone in the neighborhood would lace up the skates and go play on the outside rinks until the streets lights would go on! Must be Canadian thing, because I still do it with my kids :)

Go Habs Go, Stanley Cup here we come :)

Cheers,
GT

Great photo Dave and thanks for sharing. I loved those sweaters and how they took an overnight hanging over the stove to be dry enough to wear the next morning.

That gave one lots of time to darn up the tears in the socks.

Good memories

How about those BRUINS!!!

In past conversations with you I know you are more of a Senators fan. So I know how painful this season must be thus far for you. You should try to make it to a B's game while you are in town for PSW. It is almost as good as seeing a game at the Bell Centre.

Oh yeah, nice sweater.

This post made me go to the National Film Board of Canada site to watch The Sweater.

Having moved from to Toronto to Ottawa (Literally, not just for sports franchises), I think I'll just keep my eyes on the world jr's instead... less heartbreak there.

Ah Dave, unfortunately the Stanley Cup is going to stay south of the border again this year. -Jeremy

Your picture reminds me of the story "The Hockey Sweater" as commemorated on our $5 bill. I love that story...
And I'm a Sens fan too... and suffering living in Toronto.
Such a crappy season...
Maybe some Jr magic will rub off on Scotiabank Place?

Thanks for sharing!

Dave, I've been a Canadiens fan since 1967. As far as I was concerned, the Montreal Canadiens WERE hockey.
It was tough wearing that jersey while playing roller hockey in Brooklyn!
