TIP: Reset your Preferences

Any time Photoshop starts acting "weird", the first thing to try is to reset the Preferences. What do I mean by weird? Tools missing from the Toolbox, colors not appearing in the Swatches poalette, tools behaving strangely for no reason....
To quickly reset the prefs, quit Photoshop and then launch it, hold down Command Option Shift (PC: Control Alt Shift). A dialog will ask you if you want to delete the settings file - click OK and Photoshop will start up, "refreshing" all preferences back to the default settings. This means that you'll first want to use the Preset Manager to backup all your custom shapes, swatches, brushes etc just in case.
